Effects of Experiencing VUCA Type Situations
Keywords:
VUCA, VUCA disruptive effects, correlates of psychological well-being, decisional styleAbstract
The present research aims to show how the frequency of experiencing the disruptive effects of VUCA manifestations influence the level of development of some parameters of psychological well-being. We are talking about mindfulness, the level of perceived self-efficacy, the motivational and cognitive dimension of hope, the frequency and strength of inspiration and the level of stress. In the same context, the preference for certain decision-making styles is also discussed. The responses of 394 subjects to VUCA Questionnaire (Cracsner, Gherghinescu, 2019), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (Brown, Ryan, 2003), Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (Schwarzer, Jerusalem, 1995), The adult Hope Scale (Snyder, 1991), Inspiration Scale (Thrash, Elliot, 2003), Perceived Stress Scale (Cohen et al., 1983) and Decision Style Identification Questionnaire (Oprică, 2011), were analyzed.
Research data have shown that subjects facing both a high frequency of VUCA disruptive effects and a high level of stress have a significantly lower level of mindfulness state, significantly weaker beliefs in personal efficiency, low strength and rare frequency of the inspirational moments, significantly lower hope both on the motivational as well as the cognitive dimension than subjects rarely facing these effects. Also, statistical analyzes show that subjects frequently experiencing the VUCA disruptive effects make predominantly dependent and hesitant decisions.
Given the consequences of the disruptive effects of VUCA on the psychological quality of life, as reflected in this research results, attention is drawn to the need to train social actors for the inherent meetings with VUCA, in order to acquire the necessary skills for proper coping.
