Abstract

The therapeutical aliance has been consistently linked to positive therapy outcomes. Alliance-focused psychotherapy research on children is rather scant, but it shows that client perceptions tend to better predict outcomes compared to therapist perceptions. However, psychometric evaluations of working alliance abstract away preferential perspectives of the individual client. Our study aims to explore the subjective perspectives using a mixed method, the Q methodology. And after, use its results to address quantitative questions relating to the link between attachment and the perceived quality of working alliance of a gender-balanced sample of 20 institutionalized children. Findings reveal patterns of subjective perspectives with specific associations with attachment styles that may be used to predict dissimilarities between child and therapist-perceived assessment of their working alliance.
