Abstract

This study aims to test the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between the impact of traumatic events and the well-being of the adult population. The study included 170 people aged between 30 and 50, of whom 57 were men and 113 women. The questionnaires used were the Impact of Events Scale – Revised, the Resilience Scale, Short Form, RS-14, and Life Satisfaction Scale, SWLS. The results showed that there is a mediating effect, resilience partially diminishing the effect of traumatic life events on well-being. The novelty of the study consists in capturing the transition from trauma to well-being in the adult population in Romania. Few Romanian studies have tried to analyze how people manage to overcome critical life events and the role that resilience plays in this equation. This study can contribute to the development of psychotherapeutic interventions to increase well-being by improving the level of resilience, the latter being considered an important trait that can be strengthened over time so that the individual can cope with subsequent critical events through more adaptive mechanisms.
