Some relations between the extraversion–introversion dimension, frustration and the place of control

The paper focuses on the psychological investigation of the relationships between three dimensions of personality: frustration – as an affective part –, the extraversion–introversion dimension – as a dynamic-energetic side – and the place of control, as a personality trait in the sense of interindividual differences. The sample was represented by 60 subjects, students in the 10th grade. Standardized tests used in the research: Rosenzweig's frustration test (P-F Test, 1934); Eysenck’s personality inventory (E.P.I. – Eysenck & Eysenck, 1964); The “Place of Control” scale (The Nowicki – Strickland Scale for Children, 1973), adapted by S. Chelcea in 1994. The research results confirm a close link between the place of control, respectively ambivalent-internalists and tolerance to frustration. Thus, internalists and ambivalents have a high degree of tolerance for frustration, while externalists show a low degree. Dependent relationships were identified between the control site and the extraversion dimension. It is found that internalistic or ambivalent people are extroverted or ambiverte. No relationship between neuroticism / non-neuroticism and the place of control has been confirmed, and the refutation of this hypothesis is in agreement with psychological typologies. Statistical analysis did not confirm the hypothesis that the extraversion–introversion dimension influences the degree of frustration. The information provided by this study has a double practical applicability: at organizational and individual level. The correlation of the activities in the job description with personality profiles, which should include the correlations obtained in this research, could help a better selection of staff. At the individual level, in terms of the tools used, the predominant traits can be identified and the undesirable ones improved, thus optimizing individual and interindividual behaviors.
