Abstract

The primary aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and acceptability of a guided internet-delivered cognitive-behavioral intervention, targeting mild to moderate clinical symptoms of depression and emphasizing the changes taking place at the level of self-esteem and unconditional self-acceptance. A total of 263 participants were randomly assigned to one of the two interventions: one targeting the depression symptoms and one targeting the depression symptoms and also the two self-structures. The primary outcome measures for depression were the Overall Depression Severity and Impairment Scale (ODSIS) and the Beck Depression Inventory – 2 (BDI-2). The primary outcome measures for self-esteem and unconditional self-acceptance were Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) and Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ). The final analysis yielded no significant between-group difference for any of the post-interventions measurements. At post-treatment both intervention conditions revealed significant symptom changes compared to before the intervention. This study is a part of a larger survey which compares our intervention with a “golden standard” transdiagnostic intervention in anxiety and depression in a randomized non-inferiority trial, which is still in working progress.
