Adolescents’ emotions and negative states: Correspondences with certain personality traits

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to research the specifics of anxiety, depression, stress and aggression, highlight the relationships between these variables, as well as establish the interrelationships between them and personality traits in adolescents. It is a descriptive, cross-sectional research in which 269 teenagers participated (N=269). Data collection was done by administering psychological instruments, individually and at group level, using for this purpose the following tests, inventories and scales: Eysenck Self-Assessment of Mental States Test, Hostility Inventory by A. Buss and A. Darkee, Manifestation Scale of Taylor Anxiety Scale, Levenstein Stress Perception Scale, Beck Depression Scale and Freiburg Personality Inventory, FPI. The obtained results prove that anxiety, depression, stress and aggression are present in the lives of contemporary teenagers. Statistically significant correlations were also established between the investigated variables (anxiety, depression, stress and aggression), but also between these variables and some personality traits, such as: nervousness, depression, emotionality, dominance, inhibition and emotional lability. The resuts of this study are relevand for the development of psychological intervention programs, addressed to adolescents, and aimed at the development of their personality, with the aim of a better and more efficient adaptation in their life context.
